LOS ANGELES, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles on Tuesday reminded Chinese tourists to drive safely on their way to the West Rim of Grand Canyon in the U.S. state of Arizona.

The reminder came after a deadly accident, in which a van carrying nine Chinese tourists illegally rushed out at a stop sign near the intersection of U.S. 93 and Pierce Ferry Road in Dolan Springs, Arizona, and was hit by a pickup truck traveling northbound last Wednesday, according to the Consulate General.

The accident caused one death, four serious injuries and four minor injuries of Chinese tourists, it said.

According to local media reports, two helicopters were used to transport patients to area hospitals after the accident.

It is the third fatal accident happened at this intersection since 2016, said the Consulate General, adding that a total of seven Chinese tourists were killed.

This location is on the way between Las Vegas and Skywalk in West Rim of Grand Canyon, which attracted lots of Chinese tourists.

The Chinese Consulate General called on Chinese citizens, especially self-driving tourists and students, to abide by traffic rules and not to take risks to rush, and pay special attention while crossing this intersection.
