BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's key technology news from the past week:

SEISMIC EXPERIMENTAL SITE

A total of 360 observation stations have been established in the China Seismic Experimental Site so far, according to the China Earthquake Administration.

It aims to facilitate investigator-driven research on continental strong earthquake preparation and occurrence, and enhance the disaster resilience of the society.

SMART MUSEUMS

China is working to build smart museums with latest technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR), China's National Cultural Heritage Administration said.

The administration is promoting the use of AI, VR, augmented reality (AR), immersion display and smart guidance at the country's many cultural heritage institutions.

LIQUID OXYGEN-METHANE ENGINE

A Chinese company has assembled an 80-tonne thrust liquid oxygen-methane engine in Huzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province.

The TQ-12 engine, independently developed by private rocket-maker LandSpace over the past two years, is a new generation power system for carrier rockets. Its main components, the thrust chamber, gas generator, turbopump and valve have passed tests.

5G-ASSISTED MEDICAL TREATMENT

Doctors in a hospital in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou conducted an ultrasound scan for a patient 60 km away using 5G wireless technology.

During the 20-minute scan, three doctors in Guangzhou First People's Hospital operated via a 5G network a robotic arm that performed the ultrasound scan for a patient in a hospital in Guangzhou's Nansha district, and monitored the whole process through large screens in front of them. Enditem
