WASHINGTON, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The United States Postal Service (USPS) launched its "The Letters from Santa" program on Monday, helping children receive response letters from Santa Claus with a north pole postmark.

"The Letters from Santa program adds to the excitement of Christmas and is ideal to interest children in letter writing, stamps and penmanship," said USPS.

To get a letter back from Santa, parents should ask their child to write a letter which was addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, said USPS.

Later, the parents could retrieve their child's letter when they are alone, and wrote a personalized response letter to their child. USPS also recommended that parents could write Santa Claus' response on the back of their child's letter, in order to help their child recall what he or she wrote and save paper.

Then, the parents should insert the response letter into a new envelope and address it to the child. The parents should also wrote the return address: Santa Claus, North Pole.

At last, parents should stick a first-class mail stamp to the new envelope, and put it into a larger envelope with appropriate postage and address it to: North Pole Postmark, Postmaster, 4141 Postmark Drive, Anchorage, AK 99530-9998.

To get a letter back from Santa, the response letter must be received by the Anchorage postmaster no later than Dec. 15, while USPS would take care of the rest, said USPS.

The USPS has a history of sending response mails to children in the name of Santa Claus during holiday seasons. The USPS is an independent agency of the United States federal government responsible for providing postal service in the United States.
