HANOI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam will hold a two-day state funeral for Do Muoi, former general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, who died on Monday at the age of 101, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday.

During the state funeral on Saturday and Sunday, all national flags at governmental agencies will be tied to the pole by a black piece of cloth, and the flags will be flown at half mast.

Besides, all entertainment activities will be officially suspended.

The respect-paying ceremony will be held on Saturday and Sunday, and the ceremonial service will be held on Sunday, both at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi capital. The burial ceremony will take place on Sunday in Do Muoi's hometown, Hanoi's rural Thanh Tri district.

Do Muoi, born in 1917, passed away at the 108 Central Military Hospital in Hanoi after a long time of serious illness, the agency quoted Vietnam's Central Commission of Health Care for Senior Officials as saying.

He was general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee from June 1991 to December 1997.

He led Vietnam to implement the country's renewal policy and national development and defense. He was awarded an 80-year party membership badge.
