SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Troops of India and Pakistan Wednesday exchanged heavy fire and targeted each other's positions on Line of Control (LoC), dividing disputed Kashmir, officials said.

The two sides exchanged fire on LoC in frontier Rajouri district, about 222 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The firing continued for couple of hours intermittently, according to an Indian local government official.

Officials said so far no reports of damage or casualty were received from Indian or Pakistani side.

On Monday evening three Pakistani troopers were killed and one wounded in deadly skirmishes between the two sides.

Earlier on Saturday, four Indian army troopers including an officer were killed in similar skirmishes in the district.

Both New Delhi and Islamabad accused each other of resorting to unprovoked firings and violating cease-fire agreements. And both sides maintained that their troops gave befitting reply. The troops of India and Pakistan intermittently exchanged fire on 720 km-long LoC and 198 km IB in disputed Kashmir, despite an agreement in 2003 to observe a cease-fire.

LoC is a de facto border that divides Kashmir into India and Pakistan controlled parts.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
