Chinese naval taskforce wraps up visit to Portugal

  LISBON, October 22 (ChinaMil) -- The Chinese navy's Fleet 152 that is carrying out a global voyage wrapped up its successful goodwill visit to Portugal and left the Lisbon Port at 16:00 on October 21, 2015 for a goodwill visit to the United States.

  Representatives from the Portuguese military, staff from the Chinese embassy and consulate in Portugal, and representatives from China-funded organizations, overseas Chinese and overseas students bid farewell to the fleet at the port.

  During the visit, Wang Jianxun, commander of the fleet, visited Portugal's military and civilian leaders. The fleet held a warship open day and a deck reception, and the Chinese and Portuguese navies visited each other's warships and displayed special operations equipment.

  The Chinese fleet also actively carried out military exchanges with foreign counterparts. When the fleet berthed at the Lisbon Port, Liu Mian, captain of the guided-missile destroyer Jinan, held friendly talks with captains of the guided-missile frigate Halifax and guided-missile destroyer Athabaskan of the Royal Canadian Navy and the guided-missile frigate Peter Willemoes of the Royal Danish Navy that berthed in the same port area.

  When the Chinese naval taskforce berthed at Lisbon Port, high-ranking military and civilian officials of Portugal and representatives from the Portuguese navy boarded and visited Chinese warships. They commented highly on the goodwill visits conducted by the Chinese fleet.

  Artur Pina Monteiro, chief of general staff of the Portuguese Armed Forces, said during the deck reception that the visit by the Chinese fleet further deepened the friendship between Chinese and Portuguese navies, consolidated and promoted their friendly cooperation.

  Portugal is the seventh leg of the Fleet 152's global voyage. The fleet is scheduled to pay a goodwill visit to American Jacksonville next.
