SEOUL, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States held working-level talks Sunday at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom, Yonhap news agency reported Monday citing an unidentified diplomatic source.

DPRK Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui and U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim met at the Tongilgak, a DPRK building in Panmunjom, for about one and a half hours on Sunday.

Choe and Kim were estimated to have discussed various issues between the two sides, including U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to the DPRK expected to be made on Friday.

They had met ahead of the summit meeting on June 12 in Singapore between top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump to prepare for the first DPRK-U.S. summit.

During Sunday's talks, Pompeo's letter was allegedly delivered to Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee and director of the United Front Department of the DPRK.

After the Singapore summit, Kim and Trump signed a joint statement to completely denuclearize the Korean Peninsula in exchange for security guarantees for the DPRK. The two leaders also agreed to establish new bilateral relations.
