BUCHAREST, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Snowstorms have led to the cancellation of trains and flights, as well as the closure of motorways and ports in southern and eastern Romania, while the National Meteorological Administration on Tuesday issued new Code Orange for heavy snowfalls and blizzard.

A2, the most important motorway in the eastern part of the country linking the capital city of Bucharest to the Black Sea Port of Constanta, was close to traffic as of Monday night, as well as tens of national roads in almost all the southern counties, according to the Infotraffic Center with the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police.

The road workers with the National Roads Company have intervened with over 1,400 vehicles and spread over 6,000 tones of anti-skid material.

Over 120 trains were annulled in the southern part of the country as of Tuesday, while at least 15 flights were canceled in airports in Bucharest, Craiova and Sibiu.

Classes will be suspended in Bucharest throughout the week because of the bad weather, General Mayor Gabriela Firea announced Tuesday at the Winter Command meeting at the City Hall.

Meanwhile, the flu season's death toll hit 62 as of Tuesday, announced the health authorities in a news alert.

The arctic blast will persist in Bucharest until March 2 with temperature plunging at night to minus 19 degrees Celsius, according to the weather watchdog.
